SHELBY COUNTY, AL - Being accepted into the United States Air Force Academy is no easy task, as not only do applicants need to have the grades, character and extracurricular resume to be considered, but applicants must also get a recommendation from a member of Congress from their home state. All of those hurdles were jumped successfully by Rachel Price, a senior at Westminster School at Oak Mountain.

“Attending a military service academy is an honor reserved for our nation’s best and brightest. Rachel Price has shown remarkable dedication to her school and community through leadership and volunteer activities, and I was proud to nominate her to attend the Air Force Academy," said Sen. Doug Jones, who nominated Price for appointment. I have every confidence Rachel will represent the State of Alabama and our nation well.”

Price is a member of the National Honors Society and an active leader at The Westminster School at Oak Mountain as the Captain of the girls basketball team, yearbook photographer, and set designer for all school productions. She has been successful on the court winning multiple awards for all-area, all-region, and regional MVP in the state tournament. She trains year round with Body Creations Inc. in Madison, Alabama. Rachel has accepted her appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy and has plans to study biology and work towards a career in sports training.
