Complete Washout Closes Union Chapel Road; Assessments Ongoing
Heavy rain and flooding caused a complete washout on a portion of Union Chapel Road in Northport near its intersection with Martin Road.

NORTHPORT, AL — Water has receded for the most part in many heavily-flooded areas in northern Tuscaloosa County, but others remain closed. Among those on the list is Union Chapel Road, which saw both lanes completely wash out overnight a short distance from where the road forks into Martin Road.
Northport Police Chief Gerald Burton was at the scene of the wash out Sunday morning as he made his rounds getting an assessment on damage throughout the city. He told Patch that while there had been extensive damage to infrastructure and numerous homes, there had thankfully not been any injuries or fatalities in Northport.
"We had water rescues out at Willowbrook [Trailer Park], but everybody is fine," he said.
