Eberspächer To Lay Off 47 With Northport Plant Closure
The supplier for Mercedes-Benz U.S. International plans to close its Northport operations in August.

NORTHPORT, AL — Job opportunities are available for those impacted by recently-announced layoffs at Eberspächer. According to the Alabama Department of Commerce's WARN List, the closure has a planned start date of Aug. 17 and will impact 47 employees at the German automotive supplier's Northport plant on Fifth Street.
Eberspächer has operated in Northport since 2003, supplying auto exhaust systems for Mercedes-Benz U.S. International's plant in Vance. The company said in a statement that employees of the Northport facility will be able to apply for other positions across Eberspächer's footprint and job placement services will be offered.
Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama President & CEO Jim Page told Patch the Chamber's workforce team has been in touch with the company's HR officials and will be assisting with job placement efforts for Eberspächer employees over the next several weeks.

While job opportunities for those laid off will be available at other locations for the company, the closure is sure to deal another small setback to Northport's economy as it recovers from the coronavirus pandemic.
As Patch reported this week, the City of Northport saw its unemployment climb slightly to 2.6% in May as several months of gains in the wake of the pandemic-induced economic downturn.
