TUSCALOOSA, AL — A Hale County woman has been charged with attempted murder after a shooting last week in southern Tuscaloosa County seriously injured a 19-year-old man who investigators say she was in a romantic relationship with.

Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Captain Marty Sellers says Sawyerville resident Terrain Miles, 18, was arrested Tuesday on the lone charge connected to the shooting, which occurred sometime before noon on June 24 in the 1400 block of Maxwell Circle off of U.S. Highway 69 South.

Sellers said the victim — who is originally from Greensboro but has been a resident of Tuscaloosa for some time — was expected to recover from his injuries after being hospitalized at DCH Regional Medical Center.

"She has a relationship with him," Seller said of Miles. "However, there are additional arrests that are possible. We have other suspects and other evidence we are following up on."

Miles was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail and her bond was set at $30,000.

As the investigation moves forward, Sellers said more information would be released, but declined to provide much in the way of specifics regarding the case at its present stage.

It's important to note that the shooting occurred in what would otherwise be viewed as a quiet and safe middle class subdivision and Sellers was quick to underscore the isolated nature of the incident.

"There's always certainly a danger of other people being injured in a shooting like that," he said. "However, this was not a random act of violence. This was something that we believe was planned, so there's no danger to the community."

Those with any information in this case are asked to call the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit at (205) 464-8690 or Crime Stoppers (205) 752-7867.
