NORTHPORT, AL — The Northport City Council will hold its regular meeting Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall. Here's what we're watching, along with a look at the full agenda.
Big Item: The Council will hear a second reading of a request for conditional use approval for a group home located at 820 8th Street. The concept has been met with staunch opposition by residents and is sure to be a protracted topic of debate. Read my past coverage on the issue here.

3 things to watch
1. The Council will hear a resolution on the adoption a new employee benefit policy to all City of Northport employees, along with incoming new employees, which will come at no fiscal impact to the city. Council President Jeff Hogg tells Patch existing employees as well as new employees will be allowed to transfer unused sick leave from a previous Retirement Systems of Alabama contributing agency. This time will then be placed in a separate account for retirement service credit only and the employee cannot use this transferred time for leave time with the City of Northport.
