NORTHPORT, AL — The City of Northport has reopened Union Chapel Road after closing a stretch for additional storm culvert repairs following an extensive flooding event on June 19.

The City of Northport said work was completed a day ahead of schedule on Friday, which allowed the city to reopen the road a day sooner than expected.

The project is just one of several being addressed by the city following the flooding brought on by Tropical Storm Claudette. A state of emergency was declared by the city in the days following the flooding and the City Council has freed up $1.25 million to be put toward immediate and necessary infrastructure repairs.
As Patch reported earlier this week, emergency officials said roughly $3 million in damage was done to personal and public property on June 19.
