SSCC's Thompson, Eatmon Earn Honors After ACCC Tournament Wins
The awards came after both of Shelton State's basketball teams won their respective finals in the ACCC Tournament Friday.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Following both of Shelton State Community College's basketball teams winning their respective finals in Alabama Community College Conference tournament, both coaches also received accolades.
For a second consecutive year, SSCC women's coach Madonna Thompson and men's coach Joe Eatmon were named the 2021 ACCC Region 22 Coaches of the Year.

The SSCC men's team (23-1, 16-0) clinched its state title with a 71-55 win over Wallace Selma Friday night in the tournament final hosted at the Martin Campus in Tuscaloosa, while the SSCC women's team (20-4, 11-0) captured its title earlier in the day with a 69-58 win over Chattahoochee Valley.
Eatmon has been at SSCC since 2012, serving as an assistant until 2016 before ascending to interim head coach — a tag that would quickly be removed as the Bucs continued to succeed on the court and in the classroom. The Central High graduate and former basketball player at the University of West Alabama.

Thompson has earn legendary status at SSCC during her long tenure at the helm for the Lady Bucs, with a current career win percentage over 80%. The Lady Bucs' win on Friday night made it six straight ACCC Championships for the SSCC women's basketball program under Thompson.
The SSCC men's basketball team will now advance to the NJCAA Championship April 19-24 in Hutchinson, Kansas, whole the SSCC women's basketball team will play in the women's tournament happening at the same time in Lubbock, Texas.
