TUSCALOOSA, AL — University of Alabama outfielder Owen Diodati, a rising junior, made the most of his first week in the Cape Cod Baseball League, earning Player of the Week honors.

The lefty from Niagara Falls, Ontario reached base safely for the Wareham Gatemen in his first five games in the Cape League, logging multi-hit efforts in four out of the week's five games. Over that span, the league said Diodati went 9-for-20 with 3 home runs and 9 RBIs.

The Cape League has been in existence since 1885 and is one of the top collegiate summer baseball leagues in the country, providing a chance for the nation's top ballplayers to compete in a wooden bat league in front of MLB scouts.

Diodati's best performance thus far came in the Gatemen's first win of the season last Wednesday, which saw the outfielder log 4 RBIs off a single and home run. The RBI single on Diodati's stat line from that game was responsible for scoring his Crimson Tide teammate and shortstop Jim Jarvis.

Jarvis has also made waves on the Cape as an offensive contributor for the Gatemen, with eight hits in seven games this season.
