Tuscaloosa Area Unemployment Up Slightly From April to May

After several months of gains following the recent economic downturn, the Tuscaloosa metro area saw unemployment slightly increase.

TUSCALOOSA, AL - After several months of steady gains in reducing unemployment, the Tuscaloosa metropolitan area as a whole, along with its major cities, saw slight upticks in the number of jobless citizens in the latest preliminary statistics released by the Alabama Department of Labor.

While Tuscaloosa County's civilian labor force is up from the previous year and the height of the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic, it fell by 783 individuals from April to May, as unemployment rose slightly to 3.1%.

Both the City of Northport and City of Tuscaloosa followed similar trends as the economy returns to pre-pandemic levels.
