Tuscaloosa Warming Stations Open As Winter Storm Uri Moves In

Several warming stations have opened up around Tuscaloosa as temperatures plunge and the threat of dangerous winter weather moves in.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Those seeking shelter from below-freezing temperatures today and tomorrow will have a couple of options as Winter Storm Uri moves over Tuscaloosa and the rest of Alabama.

Skyland Baptist Church and Forest Lake United Methodist Church both announced they will open their doors as a warming station for Tuscaloosa County residents starting Monday, at 3 p.m. Those entering must wear a face covering and will be given one if they don't have a mask.

Skyland Baptist Church is located at 3320 Skyland Blvd E, Tuscaloosa, while Forest Lake United Methodist Church is located at 1711 4th Ave, Tuscaloosa.

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service, the low temperature Monday night is expected to fall to 13 degrees, as ice accumulation could pose widespread problems to travel and prompt power outages. The severity of the winter storm also resulted in Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey issuing a state of emergency on Monday ahead of the storm's arrival.
