Alabama LB Keith Holcombe Sends Video To Little Rebels Football Team

LB Keith Holcombe sent a video commending the Little Rebels for raising money for Type 1 diabetes.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — Alabama player Keith Holcombe might not have any ties to Vestavia Hills, but he's found a kindred spirit with resident CJ Mitchell. The Crimson Tide linebacker sent a video to Mitchell and the rest of the third grade Little Rebels football team ahead of their game against the Homewood Patriots on Monday commending the team for its efforts to raise money for Type 1 diabetes research. Both Holcombe, who played for Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa, and Mitchell have Type 1 diabetes.

"I just wanted to reach out and say I'm so thankful for the support and all the great awareness you guys are spreading with Type 1 diabetics," Holcombe says in the video.

The team is raising money with a "Blue Out to Blow Out" game on Monday, Oct. 23 in partnership with the Alabama chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund to support Mitchell, who plays each game with an insulin pump, and to kickstart National Diabetes Awareness Month, which begins in November. The game will be at the Sicard Hollow Athletics Complex at 6:30 p.m.
