Board Of Education Honors School System Achievements

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — The Vestavia Hills Board of Education Monday recognized multiple recent achievements by staff and students in the school system.

Recognitions included:

Brenda Seale - Alabama Lead Nurse of the Year
Vestavia Hills City Schools lead nurse Brenda Seale was honored this month as Alabama Lead Nurse of the Year by the Alabama Association of School Nurses. The AASN award recognizes nurses who demonstrate excellence in school nursing practice and leadership in school health. Seale became lead nurse of Vestavia Hills City Schools beginning in the 2020-21 school year and worked with school leaders to develop and manage the system’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights - Promising Practice Award
Vestavia Hills Elementary Cahaba Heights was recognized this month with two Promising Practice Awards from Character.org for two innovative practices related to character education. The organization recognized VHECH for its Hope Student Leadership Academy which provided students the opportunity to learn from peers about the principles of good character. The school also received an award for its Grubhub Boys Lunch which provided boys in fifth grade with the opportunity to meet over lunch to discuss character traits needed for middle school.

Vestavia Hills Elementary East - Promising Practice Award
Vestavia Hills Elementary East was also recognized this month by Character.org with a Promising Practice Award. The organization honored VHEE for the school’s East Friendship Initiative which seeks to raise awareness about students who are isolated and make an intentional effort to help them develop positive, lasting connections with their peers.
