Chase With Vestavia Police Results In Fatal Crash

A crash that occurred while Vestavia police were pursuing a suspect resulted in the death of a Homewood woman.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A crash that occurred while Vestavia Hills police were involved in a vehicle chase resulted in the death of a Homewood woman. The woman, who was not involved in the chase, has been identified as 42-year-old Robyn Naftel Herring, according to an ABC 33/40 report.

The chase began when Vestavia police made a traffic stop around 6:30 p.m. on I-65 near Alford Avenue. The person stopped fled the scene on I-65 North, according to the report. The suspect vehicle crashed into oncoming traffic on Lakeshore Parkway.

Police told ABC 33/40 the The suspect ran from the scene into the woods south of Lakeshore Parkway, and is still at large.
