Jefferson County Commissioner David Carrington Withdraws From Governor Race
After a four month bid for the state's top seat, David Carrington has announced he will no longer be campaigning for governor.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — Jefferson County Commissioner and Vestavia resident David Carrington is ending his run for governor after a four month-long effort, his campaign announced Wednesday.
“After prayerful consideration, I’ve decided it’s time for me to end my campaign for governor,” Carrington said in a statement. “My six-month journey has been fascinating – one I will never forget or regret. I’ve learned so much about our state, its politics, its citizens and myself.”
Carrington, a Republican, said that he plans to reimburse all donors and continue to serve on the Jefferson County Commission. He did not cite any personal or health conditions as his reason for leaving, saying only that it "wasn't meant to be."

Carrington will finish his second term with the commission, and said he has no immediate plans to pursue another elected office. He was first elected to the commission in 2010 after serving six years on the Vestavia Hills City Council. For four of those years, he served as the council's president.
