The issue arose as council members expressed concerns over traffic in the area and security. Up until now, the area has not been patrolled by the Vestavia Hills Police Department.

According to the new ordinance, golf carts will no longer be allowed on the public portion of Liberty Parkway roads, but can use sidewalks. City Manager Jeff Downes, a Liberty Park resident, said he’s personally seen dangerous situations with the carts, including a 10-year-old driving one on the roadway.
