Irondale Man Shot And Killed By Vestavia Hills Police
Vestavia Hills police exchanged gunfire with a man in Liberty Park Saturday afternoon. The suspect was killed and an officer was wounded.
VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — A man was killed in a shooting with Vestavia Hills Police on Saturday in the Liberty Park neighborhood, officials said. A police officer was injured in the shooting that happened around 4:30 p.m.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 67-year-old Douglas Harold Hart of Irondale.
Officers responded to a report of a man with a gun in the 4400 block of Old Overton Road, the Vestavia Hills Police Department said. When an officer arrived, shots were reportedly fired, and Hart was shot and pronounced dead on the scene, police said.

The Vestavia police officer injured in the shooting was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will conduct the investigation into the shooting.
