Rebels Hoops Top Florence To Advance In Tournament

Vestavia Hills beat Florence Thursday to set up a rematch with Mountain Brook in the state basketball tournament.

HANCEVILLE, AL - Vestavia's boys basketball team advanced in the AHSAA 7A basketball tournament Thursday 61-45. The win sets up a rematch with rival Mountain Brook in the second round.

Senior Michael Vice led the 22-10 Rebels with 18 points and nine rebounds, followed by fellow senior Paul Michael Hargrove who added 15 points and seven boards. Vestavia was solid from the free throw line, sinking 19 of 22.

This is the third straight year for the Rebels to reach the regional semifinals. Vestavia moves on to face top-ranked Mountain Brook Tuesday at 10:45 a.m. The Rebels lost to the Spartans in the Area Championship game last week 63-36.
