Rebels Repeat As Girls Soccer Champs

Vestavia's girls soccer team finished an undefeated season this weekend, capturing its second straight state title.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL - Winning a state championship in any sport is not an easy task. Winning two consecutive titles is even harder. And going undefeated is truly historic. That is where the Vestavia Hills High School girls soccer team wound up this weekend as the Rebels captured the AHSAA championship in Huntsville.

Vestavia Hills shut out McGill-Toolen 2-0 on Saturday afternoon in the Class 7A state championship game, capping off a 23-0 season. The Rebels scored on McGill-Toolen early, with Lizzie Hill - who was named the tournament MVP - scoring the opening goal 6:30 into the contest. Riley Vicinanzo scored eight minutes later to put Vestavia Hills up 2-0, and the Rebels shut out the Yellow Jackets to secure the victory and state title.

Vestavia Hills head coach Brigid Meadow said replacing nearly half the team from last year's championship was difficult, but the team came together quickly.
