Vestavia Girls Hoops Win Blue Devil Holiday Classic

The Rebels played in multiple tournaments over the holidays, coming away with a tournament title at Mortimer Jordan.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL - The Vestavia Hills High School girls basketball team was busy over the holidays, participating in the Wills Valley Shoot-Out at Fort Payne the week before Christmas, and then the Blue Devil Holiday Classic, hosted by Mortimer Jordan the week after Christmas. The Rebels finished runners-up in Fort Payne and then captured the tournament championship at Mortimer Jordan.

The Rebels defeated North Jackson and Fort Payne to advance to the championship game of the Wills Valley Shoot-Out before losing to Scottsboro 39-34 on Dec. 22 to finish as the tournament runner-up.

Vestavia began the Blue Devil Holiday Classic with a 58-28 win over Gardendale on Dec. 27, as Anna Wood scored 18 points to lead the way, according to a Vestavia Voice report. The following day, the Rebels picked up a win over host Mortimer Jordan. Alison Stubbs scored 14 points to lead the team, with Wood contributing 13 points and Emma Smith scoring 10.

The Rebels won the tournament with a 45-31 victory over Oak Mountain on Dec. 29. The girls team finished the holiday break with a record of 15-5 on the season.
