Vestavia Hills Board of Education Searching For Superintendent

The Vestavia Hills Board of Eduction announced a timeline for its superintendent search ahead of its meeting with an AASB consultant.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — Ahead of its meeting with Alabama Association of School Boards consultant Terry Jenkins, the Vestavia Hills Board of Eduction announced a timeline for its superintendent search.

Approved by the board after conversation with AASB and Jenkins, the timeline is as follows:

-Oct. 5-20: AASB conducts online community survey

-Oct. 18: Board members meet individually with consultant

-Oct. 19: AASB conducts community engagement meetings

-Oct. 30: AASB delivers community engagement results to Board

-Oct. 30: Board determines selection criteria

-Nov. 1: AASB launches search and posts vacancy

-Dec. 1: Application deadline

-Dec. 5: AASB screens applicants and selects finalists

-Dec. 19: AASB delivers finalist list to Board

-Jan. 8-12: Board conducts interviews of finalists

-Jan. 21-26: Board checks references and negotiates contract

-Late February 2018: New superintendent’s start date

While the board is not necessarily beholden to the dates listed, the timeline will serve as a guide as it moves through the hiring process.

Jenkins will present in a delayed public work session Oct. 30 at which the results of community surveys and other community meetings will be discussed.

The board also heard updates on a new software the system that was purchased to so staff could clock in and out daily. There was also a progress report on construction projects at Vestavia Hills Elementary East, Elementary West and Elementary Cahaba Heights.

Other orders of business included:

-Approval of a Five Year Capital Plan to be given to the state.

-Approval of a VHECH overflow parking agreement with Philadelphia Baptist Church.

-Appointing of members to a Textbook Committee.

- A level-3 grievance hearing from a Vestavia Hills High School parent for an undisclosed issue, which was denied relief.
