Vestavia Hills Board Of Education To Make Offer On Gresham Elementary School

The Vestavia Hills Board of Education intends to move forward with the purchase of Gresham Elementary School.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — Following a special meeting on Oct. 4, the Vestavia Hills Board of Education intends to move forward with the purchase of Gresham Elementary School from Jefferson County by making an official offer.

During the meeting, the board wrote an offer to purchase the school and its accompanying 27 acres for $6.75 million, the appraised value of the property. The board has explored the option of purchasing the school for a few months now, though the intended use for the property has yet to be determined. The sale of the property is contingent on the "approval by the United States District Court and the Jefferson County Board of Education desegregation case,” said Interim Superintendent Charles Mason.

Gresham Elementary School is located off Dolly Ridge Road opposite of Cahaba Heights on U.S. 280. (For more updates on this story and free news alerts for your neighborhood, sign up for your local Birmingham Patch morning newsletter.)
