Vestavia Hills Police Department Warns Of Phone Scam
Police say a caller is fraudulently claiming to be a Vestavia Hills police officer to scam victims out of money.
VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — The Vestavia Hills Police Department is warning residents of a phone scam in the area wherein a caller claims to be a Vestavia Hills police officer. The scammer reportedly claims the victim has outstanding warrants.
A statement from Vestavia police said the call comes from the phone number 205-978-0115 claiming to be a Vestavia Hills Police Sergeant, stating the victim has a federal warrant, and then directs the victim to call another number to give out personal information.
"No one from the Vestavia Hills Police Department will call about a Federal Arrest Warrant nor will they ask for personal identification information over the telephone," the Vestavia Hills PD said in a statement.
