Vestavia Hills Is State's Most Expensive City For Renters

A recent report shows rent in Vestavia Hills is higher than any city in Alabama.

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — Anyone familiar with housing costs in Alabama cities likely knows that Vestavia Hills carries some of the highest property taxes in the state. But according to a recent report, renters in Vestavia are also paying top dollar to live there.

The real estate website RentCafe's July rent report shows that Vestavia Hills rental rates are the highest in the state.

After a $98 annual net addition in July, the average rent in Vestavia reached $1,221.

Of the large cities analyzed, Auburn and Tuscaloosa are the most expensive cities for renters, with average rents of $1,216 and $1,123, respectively. Decatur rents are the cheapest in the state, at $569.

Considerable increases were noted in Huntsville and Madison last month, where rents went up by 7.7 percent and 7.4 percent, respectively.
