VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — While neighboring communities have put in place curfews amid protests over the death of George Floyd and police brutality, Vestavia Hills officials have said they will not follow suit.

"The City of Vestavia Hills does not currently have plans to institute a curfew," the city posted on social media, "We believe in the constitutional right to peacefully protest and, at this time, are respecting that right. If a protest were to occur in our city, it will be closely monitored and, at the first inkling of anything other than peacefulness, VHPD will draw on our mutual aid agreement with sister cities to immediately immobilize the threat. VHPD has no inclination to 'wait and see.' Our police personnel are alert and ready."

The city closed its offices at noon Wednesday during scheduled protests in the city.
