Alaska Doomsday Cabin Perfect To Wait Out The End Of Days
If you're waiting for the end of days, no one will find you in this "doomsday cabin" that is completely self-sustaining.
We’re not saying the world is ending soon, though end-of-days predictions do loom large, whether because nuclear scientists moved the doomsday clock ahead 30 seconds or something the French physician, astrologer and seer Nostradamus supposedly predicted during the Medieval period. If you’re thinking it may be time to start preparing, realtor.com, Patch’s real-estate partner, has just the place: a cabin far off the grid in the Alaskan bush that lists for $159,000.
You shouldn’t go hungry if you're willing to go out and look for food, as any self-respecting survivalist would. The 7.6-acre lakefront property is self-sustaining, the owner says, and there are plenty of fish — including world-class Alaskan salmon — and game to be had on the millions of prime fishing and hunting land surrounding it. There's a vegetable garden for those who prefer growing to killing their food.
The cabin, built by a military veteran with strategic expertise, is powered by solar panels that convert 22 hours of sunlight in the summer to electricity, and three backup generators. The cabin is equipped with a conventional wood stove and backup fuel-oil furnace, a propane-powered gas range in the kitchen and a greywater system. Water come from an 80-foot well. There’s even a small-scale lumber mill.

Others seeking a place to wait out whatever catastrophe may be brewing aren’t likely to find your doomsday hideout, a 1,250-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bath house that defies any thoughts you may be harboring about a bunker in the ground. To get there, owner Kevin Cross flies in aboard a bush plane.
“It’s 75 miles from the nearest road, or any kind of town,” Cross, who bought the property six years ago, told realtor.com. “That’s 75 miles through woods that you cannot walk through. You might be able to snowmobile through them in the winter, and it’s questionable if you can get there by boat in the summer. For all intents and purposes, this property is designed for somebody to go away and not see anybody.”

Cross, who lives full time in Anchorage, is leaving everything except his clothes and guns behind. The add-ons include a half-million dollars in tools and equipment and multiple first-aid kit that you’ll likely need if you go into survival mode.
But even if you aren’t worried bout the end of days, Cross says the cabin is a perfect place to relax and enjoy an incredible winter sky, where the moon shines so brightly he doesn’t even need a flashlight and the northern lights dance across the sky.
