Arizona Opens Up 5K COVID-19 Vaccination Appointments at 2 Sites

AZDHS says the openings are for those 55 and older and are available because of COVID-19 vaccines being available at pharmacies.

PHOENIX, AZ — Arizonans that are 55 or older and in need of a COVID-19 vaccine can claim their vaccination spot online.

That's because the Arizona Department of Health Services announced on Thursday morning that 3,000 appointment slots at Glendale's State Farm Stadium and another 2,000 spots at Chandler-Gilbert Community College had opened up due to cancellations.

The openings at the two state-run, 24/7 vaccination sites were opened up to the general public at 8 a.m. local time on a first come, first serve basis.

Anyone that would like to book a vaccination spot can do so by visiting AZDHS' site, or by calling (844)-542-8201.

The cancellations are not unexpected, according to AZDHS, as more vaccines have become available at local pharmacies and grocery stores.

That has eliminated the need to look at the two state-run sites for vaccinations, which has created additional openings at the locations.

According to the AZDHS COVID-19 dashboard update on Thursday, some 1,692,112 Arizonans have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose, with 1,051,065 being fully vaccinated against the virus.
