ARIZONA — The Grand Canyon State is the best place in the county to be a nurse, according to a study by WalletHub.

In the study, Arizona ranks ahead of the likes of Washington, Nevada, Wyoming and New Mexico, thanks in large part to the state's relatively high starting salary and number of nurses statewide.

The WalletHub survey ranked states based on 22 metrics, including average monthly and annual starting salary, nurses per capita, projected share of elderly population, share of best nursing homes and projected competition for job openings by 2028.

The 48th State's monthly average starting salary and annual salary for nurses ranked 6th nationally, while its projected share of elderly population by 2030 ranked 14th.
