Chris Stapleton Tops Country Thunder; Rolling Stones Coming To AZ

Country music star Chris Stapleton, who has hits such as “Tennessee Whiskey” and “Millionaire,” is one of the headliners at the 2019 Country Thunder Arizona festival in Florence. Stapleton performs April 11 and again on April 14.

Stapleton, a native of Lexington, Kentucky, has been nominated for 13 Grammy awards and won five. Last year, his album “From A Room: Volume 2” was nominated for best country album. His song “Millionaire” was nominated for best solo performance.

Stapleton and his signature raspy voice first surfaced in the mid-2000s when was the lead singer and songwriter for the SteelDrivers, according to the Los Angeles Times. The bluegrass band was based out of Nashville, Tennessee.

Today, Stapleton’s sound influences range from outlaw country and bluegrass to rock-and-roll and the blues. Cindy Mabe, president of Universal Music Group Nashville, told the Los Angeles Times Stapleton “defies category.”

"His songwriting and his raw, bluesy voice are seamlessly intertwined and inseparable,” she said. “He doesn't fit into any mold, formula or algorithm for a hit-single-driven format.”
