My heart is broken for Todd Heap and his family. One of the kindest persons I've ever met and a man who lives for his family.

Heap grew up in Mesa and starred at Mountain View High School - leading them to two state championships - before becoming a Sun Devil. He left Arizona State early for the NFL and made a quick impression at Baltimore - he was an All-Pro in 2002 and 2003 and is still the team's leader in touchdown receptions with 41.

He retired in 2013.
Heap has a reputation for helping people. A devout Mormon, he and his wife run a foundation dedicated to helping sick and disadvantaged children. While a Raven, he pledged $1 million to a pediatric center that was then named for him.
