Early this morning, a fire involving a gas line led to the closure of 7th Street north and south of the Salt River, between Broadway Road and the I-17. This portion of 7th Street will remain closed to vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists until further notice. Public access under the bridge is also restricted until further notice. Fire is continuing its investigation into the cause of the fire. No firefighter or citizen injuries were reported on scene.
“The next weeks and months won't be easy, but we will get through it,” said Mayor Kate Gallego. “The City of Phoenix will do everything in its power to improve traffic flow and transit options, especially for those who live and work south of the River.

“I particularly want to thank Phoenix Fire for their swift response and handling of this incident. I appreciate work on the part of the Street Transportation, Parks and Public Transit departments for what they've done so far and all the work that's yet to come.”
