June 17 update: Face coverings and physical distancing protocols will no longer be
required in city facilities for those who are fully vaccinated. Those who are not
fully vaccinated are still asked to follow these mitigation protocols. This move is in
accordance with CDC guidance and applies to both
indoor and outdoor work spaces. This policy change applies to employees,
contractors and customers or visitors to city facilities. (Note: The airport and
public transit is still covered by the Federal mask
mandate.)​​​

The Phoenix City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to amend its nearly year long mask mandate to align with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.The change means those who are fully vaccinated are no longer required to wear masks when in both indoor and outdoor public places throughout the city of Phoenix. Masks will still be required at the airport and on public transportation.   ​The vote amends the June 20, 2020 Declaration of the Phoenix City Council Regarding Face Coverings. Wednesday's vote changes the declaration to comply with the May 16, 2021 CDC guidance. The changes take effect immediately.Last week the CDC announced those who are fully vaccinated can resume activities as they did prior to the pandemic. This includes activities with family members and traveling within the US without getting tested beforehand or needing to self-quarantining upon returning.  Read the new CDC guidelinesThe Council vote also aligns the city with future CDC guidelines without the need for an additional council vote. Moving forward, the City's Declaration Regarding the Wearing of Face Coverings will automatically be adjusted in accordance with current CDC guidance, as it is issued, regarding the wearing of face coverings.Business, government sites and workplaces are still free to decide if they want to implement their own mask requirements. The CDC continues to recommend those experiencing COVID-19 symptom get tested and stay home and away from others.
