Coronavirus: Banner Health Sets Up Arizona Drive Thru Test Sites

Arizonans who may have the coronavirus can call Banner Health to determine if they can be scheduled for a drive-thru testing appointment.

PHOENIX, AZ — Banner Health is operating coronavirus testing sites in Phoenix and Tucson, according to a media release from the company. The drive-thru sites are intended to accept patients who have made appointments with Banner Health.

Anybody with concerns about coronavirus symptoms can call Banner Health to speak with a clinical team member and see if testing is warranted, the release says. The number is 844-549-1851 and is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.

If a caller meets criteria from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for testing, they'll be scheduled for an appointment at one of Banner Health's testing sites. Three are in Phoenix and one is in Tucson, the release says.

Patients will stay in their vehicle and complete paperwork before having a nasal swab done. The whole process takes between five and 20 minutes, Banner said.

Patients will then return home and stay isolated until test results come, which takes roughly three to five days.

Patients with negative test results can return to their normal daily routing if they're asymptomatic, Banner said, adding that those who are still sick could have another illness and should manage their symptoms at home.

If results are positive, Banner said, they will notify county and state health departments and provide patients with the next steps, which may include a quarantine.

Banner Health provided some details:

  • A Banner health care provider will determine if someone needs to be tested. This will be done through a phone screening. Individuals cannot request the test and will only be tested if they meet testing criteria.
  • Banner’s drive-through sites will not accept walk-ins. Everyone must be phone screened in advance and scheduled for an appointment. Those who arrive without an appointment will be asked to leave and call 1-844-549-1851 to complete the phone screening process.
