Excessive Heat Warning Issued For Phoenix Area: NWS

An excessive heat warning will take effect on Sunday, running through Friday, with highs in excess of 115 degrees in Phoenix.

PHOENIX, AZ — The hottest weather of the year is headed for the Valley, beginning on Sunday.

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning for much of Arizona, including all of Maricopa County, from Sunday through next Friday.

High temperatures in Phoenix are expected to be in excess of 110 degrees, beginning on Monday, with the Valley hitting such a temperature for the first time in 2021.

High temperatures are expected to range between 112 and 116 degrees Monday through Wednesday, the service said.

Arizonans are advised to stay inside as much as possible during the duration of the heat wave, while avoiding strenuous activity.

Luckily, it doesn't appear Phoenix will come close to the city's all-time high temperature of 122 degrees, which was set on June 26, 1990.

Last year's highest temperature, by comparison, was 118 degrees, which was set on July 30.
