Frank Lloyd Wright Spiral House Listed In Phoenix For $9,999,999
Frank Lloyd Wright designed a spiral house — the inspiration for Guggenheim Museum in New York — for his son and daughter-in-law.
PHOENIX, AZ —Renowned American architect Frank Lloyd Wright created three spiral designs during his career, including one in Phoenix he built in 1952 for his son and daughter-in-law, David and Gladys Wright. It is currently listed for $9,999,999 on realtor.com, a price drop from earlier listings.
The villa is the inspiration for many innovative structures, most famously the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
The 2,553-square-foot concrete block masterpiece sits on 5.9 acres in Phoenix's Arcadia neighborhood at the top of Palm Canyon and offers sweeping views of the desert and Camelback Mountain. The property includes both a main house and a guest house.

The 2,200-square-foot, three-bedroom, four-bathroom main house has been partially updated, but it still needs work, including structural and electrical repairs. The 360-square-foot, one-bedroom guest house has recently been restored.
David and Gladys Wright often referred to the home as their Taj Mahal, according to Town & Country. Its circular features are repeated throughout the design, from a spiral walkway that wraps around the main house and continues up to a rooftop terrace to the rounded columns, and from the "March Balloons" carpet Wright designed for the living room to a dining table and chairs.

The house has been vacant since 2008 when Gladys Wright died. It was saved from demolition in 2012 by Las Vegas lawyer Zach Rawling, who bought it for $2.4 million and then donated it to the School of Architecture at Taliesin, which houses the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
Rawling wanted to turn the villa into a museum, but the plan fell through, though, as neighbors complained that turning it into a tourist attraction would bring unwanted traffic to the neighborhood.
