New numbers out of Maricopa County show 964 cases of the coronavirus and 12 deaths. Testing is available for some in Phoenix.

PHOENIX, AZ — New statistics announced Tuesday afternoon by Maricopa County show that 964 people in the county have tested positive for the new coronavirus, with a total of 12 deaths. State authorities have been taking measures to slow the spread of the virus and offer assistance to those affected.

Testing is available in Phoenix, but only for those that qualify. Banner Health has set up drive-thru coronavirus testing sites for residents with symptoms who call in for appointments.

The state is under a stay at home order and schools have been shut down through the end of the year.

Fifty-four percent of the cases are men, and 46 percent are women. A total of 77 percent of cases are people below 65. The total of 964 is up from 873 on Tuesday.

A total of 183 of the reported coronavirus patients, or 19 percent, are hospitalized. Sixty-eight are in the ICU and 12 have died.

In total, the Arizona Department of Health Services reported Wednesday, there are 1,598 coronavirus cases in Arizona, including 32 deaths.

According to Johns Hopkins University numbers released Tuesday afternoon, there have been 51,485 deaths worldwide of 1,002,159 coronavirus cases.

In the United States, Johns Hopkins reported, there have been 5,648 deaths in 236,339 coronavirus cases.
