New numbers out of Maricopa County show 1,050 cases of the coronavirus and 17 deaths. Testing is available for some in Phoenix.

PHOENIX, AZ — New statistics announced Tuesday afternoon by Maricopa County show that 1,050 people in the county have tested positive for the new coronavirus, with a total of 17 deaths. State authorities have been taking measures to slow the spread of the virus and offer assistance to those affected.

Testing is available in Phoenix, but only for those that qualify. Banner Health has set up drive-thru coronavirus testing sites for residents with symptoms who call in for appointments.

The state is under a stay at home order and schools have been shut down through the end of the year.

Fifty-four percent of the cases are men, and 46 percent are women. A total of 77 percent of cases are people below 65. The total of 1,050 is up from 964 on Tuesday.

A total of 204 of the reported coronavirus patients, or 19 percent, are hospitalized. Seventy-six are in the ICU and 17 have died.

In total, the Arizona Department of Health Services reported Wednesday, there are 1,769 coronavirus cases in Arizona, including 41 deaths.

According to Johns Hopkins University numbers released Tuesday afternoon, there have been 58,243 deaths worldwide of 1,083,084 coronavirus cases.

In the United States, Johns Hopkins reported, there have been 6,921 deaths in 266,671 coronavirus cases.
