"Our number one priority is the safety of our riders, drivers and our entire community," city officials said.

PHOENIX, AZ—As a result of the continued impacts of the coronavirus, the City of Phoenix Public Transit Department has plans to reduce bus service beginning May 4.

According to city officials, the start of the service day will shift to:

  • Monday - Friday 5 a.m.

  • Monday - Thursday 11 p.m. to midnight
  • Friday and Saturday 11 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The reductions allow transit resources to be focused on areas and routes with the highest needs and are being adjusted to reflect ridership trends, city officials said.

"As we do so, it is important to note that we continue providing essential bus service to every community we serve," city officials said in a news release posted online. "Our number one priority is the safety of our riders, drivers and our entire community. As such, we continue urging our riders to use public transit for essential trips only, and to plan extra time for trips as these changes may affect commute times."
