Woman Shot In Car That Crashed Into Northwest Phoenix Home Dies

A 37-year-old man is accused of assaulting and fatally shooting the victim inside a car that crashed near Bethany Home Road and 43rd Avenue.

PHOENIX — A 23-year-old woman who police say was shot inside a car that crashed in northwest Phoenix near Glendale on Saturday has died. She has been identified as Mikayla Ballesteros, according to a report from AZFamily.com.

Phoenix police were initially called around 3:30 p.m. about a woman who was being assaulted by a man inside a car that crashed into a house near 43rd Avenue and Bethany Home Road, the report states.

Ballesteros was found with more than one gunshot wound in the car's passenger seat, and the car's driver, Carnell Antoin Cunningham, restrained by witnesses.

Ballesteros died at a hospital nearby, Phoenix police told the news outlet.

Cunningham, 37, has been charged with murder and aggravated assault, according to the report.
