TEMPE, AZ -- For the first time since 2019, football games at Tempe's Sun Devil Stadium will have a full-capacity crowd.

That's the plan put forth Monday by the university's athletics department, including ASU Athletic Director Ray Anderson.

In-state rival, the University of Arizona, announced on Thursday that it would have a full capacity crowd for the Wildcats home games at Arizona Stadium this fall.

Anderson said in a statement that the university, which opens its football season against Southern Utah on Sept. 2, is doing everything in its power to ensure a full house for the start of the season.

"Sun Devil Athletics has worked tirelessly to safely welcome fans back to our venues throughout the spring in a phased approached. We are moving forward with plans to have a full stadium when Sun Devil football begins on Thursday, September 2," Anderson's statement reads. "We will continue to work closely with health officials to evaluate fan protocols and will have detailed plans to share with our fan base in the weeks leading up to kickoff."
