The Normandy Estate was purchased by the Kapral family in the 1980s. The Kaprals survived the horrors of the Holocaust in the Czech Republic and eventually made their way to the U.S. for a better life. The patriarch of the family, Alex, was an industrial chemist who invented a chemical agent used in the construction of Chicago O'Hare Airport. He also obtained a patent for a silicone solvent used in Pampers diapers and stamps. The family also became a stockholder in Hammermill Paper before retiring in the Tanque Verde Family at what is now known as the Normandy Estate.
