ABI Names New Executive Director for Fort Smith Market

FT. SMITH, ARK., May 3, 2021 – Arkansas Blood Institute (ABI) has named Danny Cervantes executive director of its Ft. Smith Market.

Cervantes has served as a donor recruitment manager since 2015.

“Raising awareness of the critical ways donors support those most in need is essential to providing life-saving blood products,” said Dr. John Armitage, Arkansas Blood Institute president and CEO. “The COVID-19 pandemic has created new challenges for our blood collection efforts and we’re confident Danny’s expertise will help guide us as we seek innovative ways to support our life-saving mission.”

A graduate of West Texas A&M University, Cervantes brings more than two decades of experience to his new position.

“Danny's leadership will no doubt prove beneficial to our organization and ultimately, to the community," said Terry Ridenour, who has taken on new responsibilities as the vice president of administration and center operations. "Through his years of service, Danny has come to know both well. We count on that expertise to save lives through blood donation and, with Danny's help, look forward to increasing our presence in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma."

Appointments to donate can be made online at arkbi.org or by calling 877-340-8777. While COVID-19 vaccination is not required of blood donors, those who have been vaccinated can donate immediately, assuming they are feeling well. Blood donation typically takes only about an hour, and one donation saves up to three lives.

Arkansas Blood Institute is the local, non-profit blood supplier, supporting the inventory for patients in more than 40 hospitals, medical facilities and air ambulances statewide. For more information, visit arkbi.org.
