Hot Springs Woman Dies In Handcuffs In Springfield: Authorities

Body camera footage have been handed over to Arkansas State Police, who are investigating the death.

SPRINGFIELD, AR — Sheriff's deputies in Springfield, Arkansas, used a chemical agent and a stun gun on a Hot Springs woman, who died in handcuffs over the weekend, officers said. Regina Twist, 36, was placed in handcuffs early Sunday, became unresponsive and died.

Sheriff Mike Smith said Monday the deputies were responding to a report that Twist was causing a disturbance.

The deputy who subdued the woman was placed on paid leave. Other deputies who responded returned to duty Monday. Body camera footage have been handed over to state police. State police are investigating following a request to do so by Conway County officials. Autopsy results are pending.

Springfield is about 40 miles northwest of Little Rock.
