Little Rock Sees 42nd Homicide, Matches 2016 Total

LITTLE ROCK, AR — After yet another killing in Little Rock, the city has already matched last years homicide total and is on pace to see as many slayings in 2017 as it did in the early 1990s when the city was plagued by gang wars.

A passerby on Monday reported a body just off a frontage road near Interstate 30. Shots were reported from a spot three blocks away overnight, Police spokesman Lt. Steve McClanahan said. A cause of death remains unknown.

It was the city's 42nd homicide in 2017. Justice Department figures indicate there were 68 deaths in 1993 attributed to murder or manslaughter. Other killings, including justifiable homicide, pushed the total to 78 that year, police said.
