CA Fires: 104,459 Acres Burn As More Blazes Break Out

Here's the latest information on the fires burning in California as of Tuesday morning.

CALIFORNIA — Amid record-breaking temperatures and dramatic weather up and down the state over the weekend, more than 25 fires are now burning in the Golden State, sending thousands of firefighters to the front lines in triple-digit heat.

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District extended an air quality advisory through Tuesday due to smoke from wildfires throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. While air quality is predicted to be moderate, anyone who smells smoke should avoid extraneous activity outside.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday that the state is facing the worst heat wave in some 70 years, leading to lightning conditions that sparked many of the blazes over the weekend. In fact, a rare display of about 2,500 lightning flashes occurred Sunday over the Bay Area and Central Coast.

In parts of the Bay Area, firefighters Sunday reported 22 fires in Cal Fire's San Mateo-Santa Cruz area — some of which they couldn't even get to due to strained resources.

Below the map you see here, you'll find a rundown of the latest statistics related to several of the major fires burning in the state, according to data provided by Cal Fire and the U.S. Forest Service.
