CIF Delays School Sports: See Your Section's Modified Schedule
On Monday, the CIF released its modified season of sport schedule amid coronavirus.
CALIFORNIA — The California Interscholastic Federation announced Monday that education-based athletics for the 2020-21 school year are delayed amid coronavirus concerns.
The announcement follows news Friday from Gov. Gavin Newsom that schools in "watch list" counties will begin the academic year with a distance-learning model and campuses in those regions will be closed to students. As of Monday morning, 32 counties remain on the state's monitoring list.
Additionally, the state offered some clarification for watch-list counties.

"The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has specifically confirmed that no team sports, conditioning or drills are permitted under any of the current guidance," a July 9 letter from Riverside County Counsel Gregory P. Priamos reads. Riverside County is among the watch list counties.
Recreational team sports are also banned, according to the CDPH's "Industry Guidance" online portal.

The CIF's modified season of sport schedule (see below) reflects the season for each CIF sport and the last date for Section Championships and Regional/State Championships in those sports where events are currently offered.
"It is anticipated that most Section start dates will commence in December 2020 or January 2021," according to Monday's announcement. However, each CIF Section released its own calendar to reflect regular season starting and ending dates and Section playoffs.
