Ancient History Comes Alive at Lindero Canyon
Seventh-graders barter handcrafted goods at the middle school's Olde World Faire marketplace.
Wrapped in Japanese kimonos and Incan ponchos, Lindero Canyon Middle School seventh-graders re-created an Old World market Friday. Handcrafted goods--from Chinese kites to ancient Mayan trading cocoa--were bartered from nearly 100 booths representing ancient civilizations for the 25th annual faire.
"Social studies in the seventh grade involves the study of several cultures
during the Middle Ages," said Liberty Logan, a social studies teacher and one of the organizers of the faire. "This culminating activity allows every student the chance to experience firsthand the manner in which old world societies interacted, through barter and trade."
Seventh grade classes were suspended for a portion of the day so that
the students could explore their created marketplace on the school's upper basketball courts. The event was two months in the making.
