Brace for a Gusty Monday Southland

Winds from the northwest will blow at 20-30 mph and gust to 45 mph. There is a slight chance of rain Monday afternoon.

LOS ANGELES, CA - Gusty winds will rake Southern California again Monday and Tuesday, National Weather Service forecasters said Sunday.

But rain chances for the L.A. Basin were pretty low.

An storm front in the form of a low pressure trough was approaching Los Angeles on Sunday, and strong winds can be expected Monday into Tuesday.

Winds from the northwest will blow at 20-30 mph and gust to 45 mph in the Antelope valley after sunrise Monday. They will spread to the Los Angeles foothills and passes, as well as the Hollywood Hills and Malibu area, by 5 p.m. Monday.

As for rain, the official forecast called for a 30 percent chance of light rain in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.

The mountains north of Los Angeles may see drizzle Monday morning, and a slight chance of precipitation Monday afternoon.

It will fall as snow above the 6,500-foot elevation, well above the freeway summits near the Antelope Valley and the Grapevine. The snow level will fall to 5,500 feet by Tuesday morning, but most of the heavy clouds will blow out before then, the NWS said.
