Agoura Hills officials broke ground Monday on a new recreational center in the city's civic center.Â
The property is located at 29900 Ladyface Court, just above the City Hall and library.
"This is a magnificent building," said Agoura Hills Mayor Denis Weber. "It is a wonderful new home for our Recreation and Parks Department."Â
There are plans to open the center by late 2014.Â
On hand for the ceremony were Weber, Mayor Pro Tem William Koehler, Hilton Foundation President and CEO, Steven M. Hilton and Councilman Harry Schwarz, among others.Â
A $2.3 million donation was made by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation in September.Â
The center will allow for the development of more services and programs, including social services, outreach for at-risk teens and isolated seniors, and transportation to and from the site.
The total cost of the new center, designed by Roesling Nakamura Terada Architects in Ventura, is $10.3 million, of which $7.4 million has been raised so far, in addition to the Hilton Foundation’s $2.3 million, according to city officials.Â
