The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department said that the two died at the scene on Saturday at around 1:30 in the morning, when their Tesla veered off Westlake Boulevard and struck a tree. Officers arrived to find the car engulfed in flames. Sheriff’s officials told the Ventura County Star that the car had been ripped in half.

“It is with much sadness that Oaks Christian School confirms the loss of two graduates from our class of 2019,” Oaks Christian Head of School Rob Black said in a statement. “The school community, through faculty staff and leadership, has reached out to the families of both Zeke and Ryan to express our heartache and grief, pray with them and embrace them with love and compassion. We ask that our community join us in lifting these families up in prayer as the grieve the loss of these very special two young men.”

At a virtual graduation ceremony Sunday, Black asked attendees for a moment of silence to honor the two men.

“We will all mourn the loss of Zeek,” said Cal State Northridge coach Justin Johnson, where Bishop ran track and field. “"Zeek had an incredibly bright personality and everyone loved him. He was a dedicated teammate, friend and a leader whose smile and laugh we will miss. I am still shocked and broken-hearted for his family, our team and his friends and want them all to know that Zeek was a great athlete, but more importantly a great young man, and he will always be a Matador."
