Family Sues Driver Who Allegedly Killed Agoura Hills City Worker

AGOURA HILLS, CA – The family of a community worker killed in Agoura Hills in 2017 after being hit by a passing car is suing the woman alleged to have been the driver.

Alan Jay Molder, a 1967 Burbank High School graduate, was working at the time for the city of Agoura Hills. Molder, 68, parked his pickup truck along Keyes Adobe Road on June 10 and was walking near the vehicle when Sarah Field, driving north, struck him with her 2013 Infinitive G37, according to the wrongful death/negligence lawsuit filed in Lost Angeles Superior Court Wednesday.

Field, who lives in Agoura Hills, was driving at a high speed and was intoxicated, the suit alleges.

The plaintiffs are Muller's widow, Margaret DeYoung Molder, and his two children, Michael and Christopher Molder. They seek unspecified damages.

Field could not be immediately reached.

Molder and his wife had eight grandchildren, the suit states. Molder had served as a church deacon, a soccer coach and a Cub Scout leader, the suit states.

"He was mechanically minded and could fix almost anything, including cars," according to the lawsuit.

Molder and his spouse, who had recently retired as a school counselor and teacher, were planning to take an REV trip to Montana last July 4 to see their children and grandchildren, then travel across the country to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary, according to the lawsuit.

Molder was a certified arborist and a member of the California Landscape Contractors Association, the suit states.

Molder "had a knack for creating beautiful landscapes," the suit states. "He knew plants and how to use them effectively and relished having his own business doing what he loved."

With the filing of the lawsuit, the Molder family hopes "to prevent what happened to Alan Jay Molder from ever happening to anyone else," the suit states.
